Subject:Prayer by Elie Wiesel
Posted by:ferndalealex.
Time:12:19 pm.
The prayer read by Wiesel during the program (Speaking of Faith) originally appeared in a diary and was included in the collection One Generation After.

I no longer ask you for either happiness or paradise; all I ask of You is to listen and let me be aware of Your listening.

I no longer ask You to resolve my questions, only to receive them and make them part of You.

I no longer ask You for either rest or wisdom, I only ask You not to close me to gratitude, be it of the most trivial kind, or to surprise and friendship. Love? Love is not Yours to give.

As for my enemies, I do not ask You to punish them or even to enlighten them; I only ask You not to lend them Your mask and Your powers. If You must relinquish one or the other, give them Your powers. But not Your countenance.

They are modest, my requests, and humble. I ask You what I might ask a stranger met by chance at twilight in a barren land.

I ask you, God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to enable me to pronounce these words without betraying the child that transmitted them to me: God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, enable me to forgive You and enable the child I once was to forgive me too.

I no longer ask You for the life of that child, nor even for his faith. I only beg You to listen to him and act in such a way that You and I can listen to him together.

Subject:Praying the Jesuit Prayer of Conscience
Posted by:ferndalealex.
Time:1:47 pm.
I just joined, and thought I'd share this one that I'm trying for the week, one segement per day instead of the whole thing daily. It's been interesting for reflection. There's some Christian ways of thinking here, but it hasn't hindered my way of understanding the intent.

Praying the Jesuit Examination of Conscience

1. Thanksgiving
Adonai, I realize that all, even myself, is a gift from you.
- Today, for what things am I most grateful?

2. Intention
Adonai, open my eyes and ears to be more honest with myself.
- Today, what do I really want for myself?

3. Examination
Adonai, show me what has been happening to me and in me this day.
- Today, in what ways have I experienced your love?

4. Contrition
Adonai, I am still learning to grow in your love.
- Today, what choices have been inadequate responses to your love?

5. Hope
Adonai, let me look with longing toward the future.
- Today, how will I let you lead me to a brighter tomorrow?

Adapted from Through All the Days of Life, a collection of prayers compiled by Fr. Nick Schiro, S.J.
Further adapted (exchanged "Lord" for "Adonai")

I wanted to share a prayer that I find very useful in my life, and I hope anyone who need it will find it useful as well.

For strength and calmness:

God, give me the strength to change the things that need to change, the courage to accept the things which cannot be changed, and the wisdom to tell the difference between the two.

Dear God,

I'm struggling right now financially. My bills are piling up, and I'm not keeping up with all of my minimum payments. I've worked hard on getting this new job, which I start tomorrow, but I fear that it just won't be enough of an income. I know my debt compared to others may not be huge...but it is huge for me as a re-entering college student. I'm worried. I'm so very worried. I can't keep up right now. I have no idea what I'm asking of you. It's not to fix anything, it is perhaps more to help me find the strength to keep my chin up despite the hardships I'm facing right now financially. Help me to be strong and find inner peace despite the financial woes that are plaguing me.
